LEARN MORE about hypnosis

Q. What is hypnosis?

A. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, often induced through relaxation techniques. In this state, individuals are more receptive to positive suggestions for change.

Q. Is hypnosis like being asleep?

A. No, hypnosis is not sleep. It's a state of deep relaxation and focused awareness where the mind is highly receptive to suggestions. You are fully aware and in control during hypnosis. If you fall asleep, you’ll miss the whole thing and we don’t want that to happen!

Q.   Will hypnosis make me lose control?

Your hypnotist has no control over you and can’t make you do anything that you don’t want to do. Hypnosis stage shows, where people do crazy things, are for entertainment! That’s not what happens in a hypnosis office. Your hypnotist serves as a guide or coach to help you gain control over your life and not lose it.

Q.   Will hypnosis magically solve all my problems?

A.   Nothing will magically solve all your problems. If you want to solve any problem, it will take work. Even with hypnosis, you must follow instructions and practice to improve.

Q. Can anyone be hypnotized?

A. Generally, yes. Most people can experience hypnosis to some degree. However, the depth of hypnosis can vary from person to person. However, individuals with TBI(Traumatic brain injury) or mental disabilities may not be good candidates for hypnosis. This is one of the many reasons why we offer complimentary consultations.

Q.   What if I can’t be hypnotized?

A. You are correct if you don’t want to be hypnotized. In order to be hypnotized, you must want to be. Hypnosis is entirely a voluntary act, and you must be able to follow instructions to do so successfully.

Q. Can I be hypnotized against my will?

A. No, hypnosis requires your cooperation and willingness to participate. You cannot be hypnotized against your will or made to do anything you don't want to do. It is a voluntary state of mind.

Q.   How do organized religions view hypnosis?

A.   Most religions have approved the use of hypnosis since the AMA and APA have approved hypnosis to be used in hospitals.

Q.   Does hypnosis really work?

A.   Hypnosis works - even when everything else has failed! That is because hypnosis works differently than other things you may have tried in the past. Hypnosis taps into the power of the subconscious mind where our habits, memories, and emotions are stored.

Q.   Can I lie while in hypnosis?

A.   Yes, you can. Of course, as your hypnotist, I don’t advise it. It is important to be honest with your hypnotist so we can help you move toward your desired goals. We don’t know why people think hypnosis can be used as a “truth serum.” This is a myth about hypnosis that has no factual backing.

Q. What can hypnosis help with?

A. Hypnosis can help with a wide range of issues, including stress reduction, anxiety management, improving confidence, changing habits like smoking or overeating, managing pain, enhancing performance, and more.

Q. Is hypnosis safe?

A. Yes, hypnosis is generally considered safe when conducted by trained professionals. For best results, work with a qualified hypnotherapist.

Q. How many sessions of hypnosis are needed?

A. The number of sessions can vary depending on the individual and the issue being addressed. Some people may see results in a few sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing sessions. On average we work with clients from anywhere 6-12 sessions.

Q. What does hypnosis feel like?

A. Hypnosis is a state of mind, not a feeling, but how it can “feel” can change from moment to moment, depending on what we are working on. The first thing we will focus on is relaxation, which helps us focus! Some people feel very relaxed, heavy, or weightless! It’s a personal experience!
