Certifications for Hypnotherapists

Deciding to become a hypnotherapist is a big and exciting step, and it can come with a lot of questions. One of the most common questions we hear is, “Which certification should I get?” We know why we get this question so much. If you google “how to become a hypnotherapist” you’ll get a bunch of hits for online programs, all offering different things. It can be overwhelming and really confusing, especially for someone who is trying to get started in the field. For tips on how to choose the program that’s right for you, read our last blog. To learn about what some of the different certifications are and how they’ll shape your career, keep reading this one.

-What do professional hypnotists do?

There are several different titles for certified hypnotists and depending on what state you’re in the requirements for certification may vary. Generally speaking, though, you’ll need to complete a basic training program with an accredited organization then apply for certification through a certifying body, like the National Guild of Hypnotists. Once you’re certified, you’ll be able help clients with a variety of issues, including modifying undesired behaviors like addictions and bad habits, treating chronic pain by using the mind-body link, and addressing PTSD and other mental disorders.

So which type of certification is best for you?

I’m glad you asked!

-5 PATH vs 7 PATH Certifications

With most hypnotist training programs, you’ll be able to choose between a 5-Path and a 7-Path certification. PATH is an acronym for Phase Advanced Transformational Hypnosis and refers to the different phases of hypnosis involved in each. Most people choose to do both when going through training, but here’s a quick comparison of the two so you can decide what options are best for you:

·      5-PATH certification will teach you to use powerful hypnotherapeutic tools like Direct Suggestion, Age Regression, Forgiveness Therapy, and Parts Mediation Therapy. You’ll learn how to use them together or separately to best help your clients address their needs, for example, using age regression and forgiveness therapy to help someone heal their childhood trauma so they can live a more fulfilling adult life. A 5-PATH certification will equip you with all the tools you’ll need to help other people heal through hypnosis.

·      7-PATH certification takes things a step further and teaches you how to use all of those tools on yourself. You’ll be able to use your hypnotherapy skills to address issues you may have and learn how to reprogram your mind-body-spirit connection in a personal and customized way. Everything you’ll be able to do with your clients by using your 5-PATH certification you’ll be able to do for yourself with the 7-PATH. Additionally, 7-PATH certification enables you to teach your clients to use hypnosis on themselves, so they can become independent and gain control of their own minds even when we can’t be there to facilitate for them.
